In the Outsiders,

The Socs hate the greasers because of basically history. The Socs have the money and popularity, while the Greasers have less money and aren't so popular. But, as you will see in the middle of the book, the Socs and the Greasers start to collide, and then drift away suddenly.

As for the question #2, you must answer that on your own terms. For me, Ponyboy and his friends are similar because me and my friends always stick together no matter what. Ponyboy and the Greasers are different then me, because I don't go out killing people, running away, and burning down a church!

The Greasers are so important to Johnny because that's all he has. His friends have always been there to help him. When Johnny was beat up, the gang was there to save him. When they ran away, Ponyboy was always there to help Johnny. No matter what happens, Greasers helped Greasers! They always stuck together!

"The Outsiders" is a great story with a lot of social commentary.
To answer your questions:
1. The "socs" hate the "greasers" because they lack social status & they're not part of the "in crowd". They're also seen as "hoodlums" or "gangstas" as they're known today.
2. I can identify with Ponyboy & friends because I know what it's like not to be accepted socially. On the other hand, I cannot condone the violence they sometimes resort to.
3. The greasers are Johnny's only real friends. He also sees the good that is in them. He tells Ponyboy to "stay gold" or hang onto what's good.

They are on different sides of the tracks. The greasers are poor, socs are rich. They are jealous of each other for different reasons. The greasers are jealous of the socs money. The socs are jealous because the greasers are stronger and can get through anything. Then they get really mad with Candy talks to ponyboy.

That is how it is in schools. There are rich kids and poor ones. Sometimes they separate.

They all grew up together and will stick together.

The Socs hate the Greasers because they are poor, and the Socs are rich, it is a rivalry between gangs

Ponyboy has a clique with his friends, like I do, but he and his friends use violence when trying to solve problems, and I don't

The Greasers are important to Johnny when he kill one of the Socs because he has basically no family, and they are the only people he loves, or at least that care about him

its not so much that the greasers are poor and the socks are rich.its more like the greasers have ppl to look up to .their friends are family, their important.the socs (socias) they dont have that.for example: that dude that johnny killed at the park or sumthin like that.......well he was lookin for attention.his parents always thought that they were doin sumthin wrong when he would get into trouble.they would always say yes and give him privleges to do things even though he didnt deserve it.he just wanted them to say no.he wanted them to put their foot down.well anways....johnny,the greasers were important to him b/ that was basically the only family that johnny really had.sum 1 to care for him.the greasers looked out for eachother no matter what.unlike the socs.they socs really didnt have anything special except money and popularity.

1.) they both see the same sunset even though they are from different worlds in some sense. 2.) He say's it's b/c then his father is at least showing him some kind of attention instead of just ignoring him. 3.) Since they're parents are both dead if they get into trouble then they could all be broken up and ponyboy and I believe his other brother soda pop could be sent into foster care. 4.)It's been a long time since I read the book but wasn't chapter 3 where ponyboy was dreaming in the park about his parents?

If you don't want to read thenrent the movie! But question #2 can really only be answered by YOURSELF. None of us here can tell you that unless we know you personally. Have some of your friends watch it with you and have them tell you what they see in you that is like the movie.
