Melted chocolate dripped over the spike of the trap. It soon hardens and is difficult to bite off.(not that I've tried to !)

Peanut butter is better. They love it and they can't snatch it and take off... they have to sit there and lick at it so you're more likely to snap their necks with traditional traps.
