Wow...that's all I can say. I don't live there anymore, but I spent the first 25+ years of my life there, and an VERY familiar with the weather. There used to be an old joke.....how many seasons does Buffalo have?

2: Construction and Winter

Anyway, my family still lives up there, so I called them this morning. They were without power for almost a whole day....and had trees down and their Adelphia Cable line fell down too (luckily didn't break, so they can still watch how bad the weather is on The Weather Channel, LOL.)

I guess it's just a fluke....I don't remember EVER having a snow storm (especially one this bad) this early in the season.

The kids were probably happy getting a long weekend and being able to play in the snow. The adults must have had a different response. Since I'm now an adult, I really HATE when it snows around here (tri-state NY). I live about 26 miles from where I work, and our office closes for almost NOTHING. I lost all my Buffalo snow driving skills!!!

I think I'm very glad I live in South Carolina.

Seriously, I think we're screwing up the planet big time. Killer hurricanes that wipe out major American cities, snowstorms in October, crippling heat waves in the summer; it makes you wonder. Is this the planet's reaction to all of the poisons we have been dumping into the oceans and pouring into the air over the past decades? If you look at the earth as a living interconnected organism, then I think the answer is "yes." Think about it - you eat something that doesn't agree with you and you get sick and throw it up. You get an infection and your body creates antibodies to fight it off. What if the planet behaves the same way?

And just to clear up any misunderstanding, I was merely expressing my gratitude that I lived in a place that doesn't get much snow. I hate snow. I'm not glad that someplace else got hit by a blizzard, but I am grateful that, for the time being, I don't have to worry about that. Just as I am sure that the folks in Buffalo are grateful that they don't have to evacuate their homes once or twice every summer because of an incoming hurricane.

for those of you who say better there then here need to really think about what you just said. never once have i looked at an natural diaster area and been like "OH WELL IM GLAD IM NOT THERE" have some sympathy for us!! I know several people with small children that have been with out gas and electric since friday morning and they say it may not be back on untill next weekend. People all over the city are with out food becuase no stores are really open and they really can't get or cash their paychecks!! so you tell me how would u feel if something happended where you are and half the city were either cold or hungry both kids and elderly who need oxygen too???????

I agree with the comment above,im a buffalo resident and its very distraught here in buffalo for the first two days. there was no power, no water, people have died due to the cold weather, me myself thought i would never make it because it was freezing cold and i had no heat because i had no power.

People should be a little more thankful and understading. People were walking to get where they had to go because the buses were not running, no taxis, no nothing. NO POWER,WATER, its terrible, so u all need to thank GOD for being alive and not having a disaster happen.

i'm from amherst...one of the worst hit parts! my power went out 8 pm on thursday....came back around 8 pm saturday...went out 4 am sunday...came back around 10:30 am sunday...i consider myself lucky because most of amherst and williamsville aren't expected to get power back until next weekend because all the wires are entangled in the trees and stuff so its going to take the longest to fix...
my school was cancelled friday...and is also cancelled for the entire week now!!!!! busses wouldn't be able to get down some of the streets...plus half the kids probably wouldn't be able to leave home...or would be too embaressed because they wouldn't have clean clothes/taken a shower etc.
trees are down everywhere...but not everyone got the same beating, my friend had a tree go through her window and also knock down her pool and break her basketball net...she lives in a neighborhood with a lot of large, older trees that were easily damaged.
my side of my neighborhood looks like a bomb went off...every tree has branches touching the ground...trees cracked in half...clean up lining the side of the streets...there are piles and piles and more piles of fallen trees
it's crazy!!!
oh and i still have to boil my water before i drink it!

p.s. to all the people who said better there than here...when i hear about things such as hurricanes, tornadoes, the earthquake in hawaii...i don't say things like that...it's very rude and ignorant! my dad had to go down to new orleans to help with the clean-up and surveying and stuff after katrina...so even though i live up in buffalo...the storm still affected me! i can't stand people who don't think of anyone but themselves! just be thankful you haven't had a disaster hit you!

Since it's already melting....it sounds like fun.

Very sad about the 3 fatalities due to the storm.
