I mean how many were really born in Africa? How about their parents or grandparents? Probably not born there either. Everybody has hertiage elsewhere but it seems we only need to recognize the black peoples backround.

Kill the white man!

The term African American was created by some white person who was attempting to be politically correct. African Americans are people who migrated from Africa (by choice). I am black. I've never been to Africa, neither has anyone in my family, so I really can't claim to be "African American".

I used to work with someone that loved to spring the label thing on people when she was talking about diversity. If you looked at her, you saw a black woman, or, as some might say, an African American. She, on the other hand, was happy to tell you she was born in Jamaica and raised in England. Can't tell who we are just by looking. :)

I think it is all a matter of personal preference. Some people can't stand it, others can live with it,and some embrace it. I, for instance, can't stand being called Chicana. The word really annoys me, but there are some Mexican Americans that can live with. In the end, it depends upon what that person wants to be known as.

I suppose not. It isn't an insult to call me white. Perhaps we should just call Latinos "browns", Caucasians "whites", and people with ancestors from Africa "black". And maybe Asians "yellows".

People should be called whatever they want to be called.

I'm Caucasian and HATE the label "white"

I have European heritage, and therefore should be addressed as "European American" for those who want to be politically correct

No because they are just american. They threw a fit to be called that, because they did not like the other words used.

So-let them have their way about it, its just words.
