Apple Mac OS X is a bit easier and more robust than WIndows XP, but the computers themselves are not much difference (be they laptop or desktop).
With Apple you may more for a "trendier" package but you are limited in software and accessories for it (not as many vendors make products for Apple as they do for PC's). One area the Apple excells in is with multimedia creation and editing.
With any PC you pay less than an Apple (which gives you more bells and whistles for the same $$$) and you have your choice of products to use/run with/on the PC. Plus you can go into just about any store and buy them.
People whine about Microsoft having a Monopoly on Windows and stifling competition, but they fail to notice that Apple has just as big and evil monoply over their products, the only difference is they have such a tiny share of the market.

Well, you could go ahead with a Macbook but for an extra $900 you get a backlit keyboard, even faster than macbooks. A large, high res screen. They do wonders when it comes to video editing. Bueatiful interface. Soft keys, sexy case built in camera and virus free (no 114,000+ viruses for Mac!) crash free, doesn't freeze up and is so easy to use without pop up windows saying "your windows computer is experiencing disasterful problems, will now self destruct in to an inferno and leave you another dissatisfied, ripped off customer by someone who likes to rake in money not give you nice, reliable computers."

Macs are great for video as well as graphics! But I think macs notebooks are better allover. I have never had one not one single pop-up in 5 years on either of my two mac notebooks. I also have had a pc notebook and I had so many mroe problems than with my macs.

Unless you are going to be video editing you don't really need a mac (or they aren't that much better, if at all).

This point is debatable. It is a matter of personal preference.
