I was 40 weeks and 3 days pregnant when I went into labour. I didn't feel any pain until the day...I mean absolutely nothing. It started at about 5:45am, and it was just a back ache. It didn't start out as being painful, it was just annoying, because I wanted to sleep.
It was like that for a couple of hours, and I tries to sleep, but couldn't. Then, at about 11:00am, I sent my partner a text, he was in hospital with some mystery illness that turned out to be a cold sore on his eye lid, and then began timing the pains, I had noticed that there definate pattern to the pains.
They started to get more painful, and that was when I worried- I didn't want it to happen. I wanted to stay pregnant forever at that point, I was so scared of giving birth!
I soon found myself booking into the maternity department, and worried that they would send me away because I had never called anyone there, it was all arranged by my partners nurse.
Anyway. I suffered these pains until about 5.15pm, and that was when a midwife decided I needed pain relief, She gave me gas and air, which I soon became best friends with- WOW, it's good stuff! And that unfortunately stopped the contractions being so intense, for a little while. Then, a few hours later, they decided to move me to the delivery wards, where I was suddenly dealing with more pain than I had ever felt in my life, I smile when I think about that journey up to the delivery room because we had to go up in a lift, and all I could think of were all those movies when you see pregnant women in lifts and they break down, I couldn't believe that I was thinking about something so daft...and at that point, I had been disconnected from the gas and air, but I still wanted to keep the mouth piece in my mouth, much to my partners amusement!
So time progresses, pain intensifies, and I feel like I have to push.
That was the most pain I had ever felt, and the midwife wouldn't let me have the gas and air anymore- she told me it was time to do some owrk, and I also think that it had something to do with me abusing it a little, I spent sometime earlier continuously breathing it in, almost sending me unconscious...but it felt good!
After pushing for ages, seeing my babies heart rate dropping was scary, and this spurred the midwife into giving me an episiotomy, after which, Angel shot straight out, looked around and laughed at us! Even at birth she was a happy little girl.
So, my advice is:
Listen to your body.
Do not allow yourself to focus on your apin, forget the last contraction, and do not dread the next. Let each onne wash over you like a wave.
Concentrate on your breathing.
Let the midwife guide you, but do what you feel is comfortable.
Unless you can avoid it, try not to give birth lying on your back- try to stand/squat/kneel instead- it lets gravity help you.
Just relax as much as you can.
Sorry, I don't know if this is the kind of answer you were looking for, but this was my birth experience.
And don't forget that although it is painful, it is a pain like no other, you will forget it's intensity, and the moment you see your baby, it's all worth it.
I wish you a healthy baby, and a safe birth.
Good luck. It'll be happening any day now!

Dont worry too much. I am 19 years old and 8 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child right now. My little girl who is 2 now (they grow up so fast dont they?) was the same way. I got worried about not going into labor or feeling any pains so i called my doctor. They told me to do alot of walking it helps progress labor. Besides the doctor wont let you go too far over 40 weeks. they will admit you to the hospital and put u on pitocin to start contractions if it doesnt happen naturally. My sister carried her 1st baby for 42 weeks before she started labor. Your due date could be a little of or your baby may just be so comfy it doesnt want to come out? LOL. Good luck to you and dont worry.

You can go into labor a couple weeks after you drop you dont go in right away, but my dr told me you can have sex to speed the process of labor or take walks but not over due it, if you start to feel tired take a rest and put your feet up. good luck and congratulations

It's your first one so you will probably make it all the way to your due date, maybe even after. Hang in there, not much longer. It will be here sooner than you think. My first one I went into labor the morning of my due date at 4 in the morning. Everyone is different, good luck!

Go walking, have sex, eat spicey foods. Walking is the best thing to start it up but the best best thing is to let nature do it for you. Do the last fews weeks SUCK, YES they do! But you will forget all about when the baby is here. Just try going for a walk at the mall or on a track at a school or in a local park, BUT TAKE SOMEONE WITH YOU just in case!

it is not abnormal not to have painful braxton hicks, some women are just lucky not to experience it.
ideas to induce labour how about have have sex to start labour or eat a hot curry. If you are really uncomfortable and the midwife think the baby is at risk they might induce you.
