If you are using Windows XP Pro, it comes with an encryption feature. However, you won't find it on the home edition. Thankfully, Microsoft has developed a free tool to password protect folders. Windows Private Folder password protects any folder you want and is incredibly easy to use. However, even though the software was developed by Microsoft, Microsoft does not provide any tech support for the program. You can download it from betanews.com

How to secure folders:

Right click the folder, hit Properties, go to Security tab and set the Users you wish to Allow access. Deny the rest of the users. This will allow you to authenticate based on the Windows user login.

Good Luck

Right-click the folder that you want to make private and choose "Properties" (or Alt+Double-click). Go to the "Sharing" tab and check the "Make this folder private" box.
