According to JupiterResearch, there are, today, nearly 195 million mobile phone users.
Life would be both quieter, and less convenient without them.
Many of us had cell phones 10 years ago. And we loved them back them and couldn't imagine why more luddites didn't have phones. Of course, they were bigger and it cost more...but they were worth it if you were in sales and spent a lot of time on the road. Cell phones weren't as cheap, so they weren't used for as much personal "chit chat" as they are today.
In 10 years time my guess is that all of our phones will be GPS equipped, we'll see fewer dedicated landlines (copper) and more fiber to the curb. We'll have devices that allow us to work from wherever we are, however we wish...with most applications stored on a server.

i have one.
if i didn't have one then i guess....my answering machine at home would be filled with messages.
10 years ago, we woud have just called the person's house and hope for the best and leave lots of messages.
in 10 years, companies will probably make cooler looking phones and there will be more functions
