Your best bet here is to get together with her and work out all the details before going to court. Get everything down on paper and hire a paralegal or an attorney if feasible. The paralegal can do it all for a whole lot less and you can find one in the yellow pages or nearby university with a legal dept.. If left to a divorce court judge, she wil be awarded the children, child support, and the house because of the kids. The courts could care less about how much time and effort you have into the house. You might be awarded spousal support which would be offset against your child support. So it is definitely in your best interest to settle this before court and the judges love it as it makes their lives easier. Also if you two can agree upon a price then you could buy her half out if you want the house and if she is willing to give it up. Good luck

Unfortunately, time and effort put into maintaining a house is not quantifiable as far as division of assets. Your wife could say the same thing about housework, cooking and laundry (assuming she did that stuff...).
Hire yourself an attorney asap to discuss options. Better to be prepared then blindsided. I would think she has done the same already. In California it is generally a division of assets 50/50 no matter who contributes what. Don't know what it's like in MS.
Too bad for your kids.. They always get the worst deal in divorce. Sorry, but I really think your concerns are secondary to how this will affect them.

Contact an attorney...the 18 year old is now adult so you should not have to pay child support for that one even if he/she continues to live at the home. Since she paid the mortgage and you did the work on the house...it's a draw. But you do have to provide shelter and support for the minor child

hey well if you haven't put any money into anything then you don't have any rights .. if she has been paying the bills then she will keep doing it and you can be there for your kids but that's about it if she wants a divorce then sign the papers that's about all you can do .. I'm sorry this is happening but if its what she wants then just make it a easy as it can be .. good luck

I'm from california, i think you better look up mississippi law and check out your options. I think it's universal though that when the kids turns 18, you no longer have to pay support.
I could be wrong....but anyways, since you're online, look up your state's info.

Basically you are out of luck, but you may get a good lawyer who can get you a piece of the equity in the home. You may be able to have her buy you out of the house.

The house is still half yours. You may not be able to stop a divorce, but would you want to if she has no feelings left for you?

Sounds like she deserves the house, give it to her for the kids sake and move on.
