I need help with a good topic. I have my topic which is "Black Slave Owners" but I need maybe a good question that can be answered in my project. Im clueless about what i should do, can someone help me please.

Since the major sources on this topic (which I have listed below) investigate African-American slaveholders in NY, Louisiana, and South Carolina, why not compare geographical differences in the conditions and motivations for these African-Americans to hold slaves?

In other words, a good research question might be:
How did geographic location effect the conditions and motivations for African-Americans to own slaves?

You have some great answers so far.

I have an "angle" to go at... perhaps studying the "economics" of slave ownership. How much would a farmer/plantation owner have to spend/put out for hired help if he/she didn't have slaves?

How important was slavery to the economy? There may be variations from state to state, but this is an interesting idea.

You have a good topic, too. There are lots of resources to use!

I just watched a great documentary entitled "Confederate States of America" which depicts what it would be like here in the USA if slavery was still allowed. It gave me a lot of ideas to discuss with my college students and may help you with your paper. Hope that helps!
