Does he have to divorce her or something? He mentioned something about this, and I was just wondering. Or does he just have to bring her death certificate when we go to get our license? Does he have to do that even? Just wondering.

OK, everyone SORRY. I didn't realize it was WIDOWER. :) Not like I have any experience with this kind of thing. That's the reason I asked the question.

Just bring her death certificate when you apply for the license just in case but the clerk should be able to raise the details via their computer. Nothing else needs to be done. Congrats on your upcoming wedding and the very best of luck in your marriage

Hon, he is a "Widower" ( male form of the word). No he doesn't need to do anything. He should take the certificate, but I think a simple declaration on the license will suffice.
Better yet, call the license bureau, and inquire.

He is widowed. He does not need to get a divorce.
You should call the clerk of the county where you are going to get your marriage license to see what you will be required to bring along.
Good luck.

How about calling the court house and asking them? You have to go there to get your license anyway, so he could just take a copy of the death certificate.

Hey I don't think he has do anything. Because his wife is gone and so he is free to marry if he wants too. My father-in-law didn't have to have a death certificate when he married the second time. So tell him that you and him can get married. So good luck.

Laws very from state to state but I dont think he has to divorce her as she is dead. The person officiating the ceremony may need proof of her death but I doubt it.

Is he a woman or something? Widow=female, widower=male. Call your friendly local courthouse and find out exactly what you will need.

If he is a he...he is not a widow....but a widower....and he isn't married. He doesn't have to prove he isn't married anymore than you do.
Go get the license and good luck
