Basically it all boils down to a man who takes people who don't appreciate their life and takes their loved ones for granted. He takes this kind of people and puts them through hell.

SAW I involved a family man (Dr. Lawrence Gordon) and a photographer (Adam); they are chained to pipes in a very large restroom with a dead man on the floor and have no idea why they are there. Turns out it's a sick twisted individual (Jigsaw) who hired the photographer to take pictures of the family man who was going to cheat on his wife (Alison) with a med student (he ended up not cheating) the crazy puppet looking thing is the one who is hosting this fiasco, and he has another guy, who he's poisoned to go over to the family man's house and hold his wife and daughter captive unless the family man kills the photographer. He fails at this because the wife unties herself and has a standoff with the guy. All the while a cop (Danny Glover) is trying to solve the case even though he was (I think) relieved of his duties, and he's staked out at the family guy's house, hears the gunshots, and barges in to save them, but ends up getting hit with a vase and knocked unconscious, so the guy escapes but still can't find the wife and daughter so he flees to the crazy guys chamber of torture. (Also, the family man is made to listen to the whole struggle on a cell phone that the crazy man provided) The family man ends up sawing his leg off, crawling to the gun that was lying conveniently next to the supposed dead guy (as the photographer screams for him not to do it) and shoots him, he falls. Then the guy that's poisoned gets to the torture chamber, has a stand off with the Danny Glover, ends up killing Danny, goes into the large bathroom, and the family guy is pissed but tells him he did the task and to show him his family, the poisoned guy says that he didn't follow the rules (there was a time limit) but the photographer isn't dead, grabs his leg, he falls, the photographer starts bashing the poisoned guys face in until he's dead. Meanwhile family man is bleeding to death from his foot; he crawls over to the photographer and tells him he's going to go get help, and crawls out the door (and subsequently dies of course.) The photographer then starts looking through the poisoned guys pockets because he is unaware that the poisoned guy is not the crazy guy, he was just a pawn like the others, and finds a tape player with the same voice on it as the one given to family man at the beginning (sorry backtrack) and he realizes what happened and starts to scream, then THE DEAD GUY ON THE FLOOR, Gets up, (He likes front row seats to his shows) and the photographer try’s to shoot him, but he electrocutes him (and we know he dies because in the second one, he's still on the floor of the bathroom burnt to a crisp.)

Saw One
A young man named Adam wakes to find himself chained to a rusty pipe inside a decrepit subterranean chamber. Chained to the opposite side of the room is another bewildered captive, Dr. Lawrence Gordon. Between them is a dead man lying in a pool of blood, holding a .38 in his hand. Neither man knows why he has been abducted; but instructions left on a microcassette, order Dr. Gordon to kill Adam within eight hours. If he fails to do so, then both men will die, and Dr. Gordon's wife, Alison, and his daughter will be killed. Recalling a recent murder investigation by a police detective named Tapp, Dr. Gordon realizes he and Adam are the next victims of a psychopathic genius known only as "Jigsaw." With only a few hours left to spare, they must unravel the elaborate puzzle of their fate in the midst of mounting terror. The killer has provided them with only a few clues and two handsaws – too weak to break their steel shackles, but strong enough to cut through flesh and bone.
Saw Two
Jigsaw begins his killings again, and at the scene of one of his "games" he leaves a note calling for a Detective (Eric) Matthews. At first reluctant to get involved, after Eric notices a clue Jigsaw left behind and works out the location of his hideout, he decides to come along for the ride when a SWAT team break in. Jigsaw or "John" rather (Jigsaw being a name given by the press) is actually inside, sitting at his desk and attached to a life support system (he is already dying of cancer.) It's at this point he reveals that he has trapped a group of people in a house somewhere, (including the heroine addict from the first movie, Amanda) and they have 2 hours to live before a nerve gas filling the house causes them to bleed to death. There are several doses of the cure hidden in the house but in order to get them they will have to pass a series of brutal tests. Eric and the team can watch the different rooms of the house through monitors in Jigsaws base and can see the 2 hour timer ticking down but have no way to communicate with the people inside, and to his horror Eric realizes one of the people is his son, Daniel. John challenges Eric to a game. The rules of the game are simple. He has to sit and listen to what John has to tell him, only then will he see his son alive ever again. As the unlucky people in the house begin to explore and die one by one, time is ticking away and Eric seems no closer to saving his son.
