the opal is the original birthstone for the month of October. i think that other is just a jewelry selling ploy. stick with the tried and true it is beautiful and reflects the many different colors of an October baby's personality

Go to this website. You actually have more than 2 birthstones. Are you a Libra or a Scorpio? That makes a difference. There are 11 for November. This site is pretty interesting. I tried to copy some pieces of it but it wouldn't work. Sorry. Take a look at it.

Choose whatever you like or both... Did you know that it's bad luck for anyone else to wear an Opal if their birthday isn't in October. I've heard that before.

The pink stone you are thinking of is rose zircon (not zirconia as in CZ,). I think each sign has an expensive, (opal), and a less expensive (rose zircon) stone. Zircon also comes in other colors, and blue zircon is very beautiful. Choose the one you like better, or look for jewelry that has both stones in it...opal and pink zircon is very beautiful combined.
