I just read that spraying WD-40 or even a similar product from a dollar store will work, (will not ignite) and this is easier than -VASELINE. You may want to try them both. Or you may want to combine all the answers and come up with your own "proven method."

You can mist them on the inside once a day with some cool water with a little Fruit Fresh mixed inside. Also - carve the hole in the bottom of the pumpkin - where it will just fit over the candle (instead of cutting the top), because that is usually where it will start caving in when it gets older.

after they are carved there really isnt anything you can do to preserve them from rot we usually buy ours about a month before halloween and just sit them on our porch until a couple days before then we carve them

you should dunk them in water for a couple of hours when they start to wrinkle and sag--

keep them in the fridge after you have displayed them for the night --

and yes, rub the carved parts with vaseline

they won't last you for 20 days -- they might last for 7-10 days

After carving, rub vasaline through out the inside and were you carved (the raw parts). It sounds stoopid but, IT WORKS!
