If you mean that you are looking for a tree to plant in a shady area, I would recommend a Flowering Dogwood or a Japanese Maple. Both of these trees like a lot of shade and are highly desirable. Japanese Maples have great leaf shape and color, especially in the fall. Dogwoods flower in the spring, turn burgundy in the fall, and have small red berries that hang on into winter and attract songbirds. Whatever you choose I hope you enjoy it!!!

don't get the willow.
A nice small one would be a japanese acer but would have to be in the sunniest part of the garden. "Cercis" the judas tree is really nice(15ft).Rhus is beautiful too but will need to get some bit of sun.
All trees will grow in a shaded garden, just not as fast or as vibrant(maybe!)

Taxus - (Yew tree)
~Evergreen
~Red berries for extra interest
~Tolerates clipping well - therefore...
~Excellent for topiary
... really good for a shady situation
others include:-
~Betula (Silver birch - keeps its white trunk in shade & takes up less space than a lot of trees)
~Cornus (Dogwood)
~Acer Griseum (the Paperbark Maple - tolerates shade & has amazing peeling bark. I peel it off, write letters on it, and send it to friends!)

Oak or maple if you want to be able to sit under it in the shade. They grow branches high up enough that you can get right under it. Or a weeping willow if you want a place to hide.

Hi Ivan, do you want to grow the tree in a shaded place, or to grow a tree to give you shade in your garden ?
Where is your garden - the best trees for shady gardens are different in Alaska to those in southern California (for example).
