I don't think he'll be a big star like Sittler or Sundin, but he should be a valuable player who puts up some decent point totals.
At the time they drafted him, I wouldn't have thought he'd do much. He put up nice numbers in the OHL, but he was never a physical player. But with the rule changes in the NHL, I think a guy like Wellwood can succeed and thrive.
He's got a lot of work to do on his defensive game, but offensively I think he's capable of being an 80-point guy if he has decent linemates.

Wellwood is really picking up some big points playing on the top line with Sundin. He has a lot of potential and he should be a good player in the league. However many people are saying Alex Steen is going to be the Leafs' next star. Some even thinks he'll suceed Sundin as captain. But Wellwood is better than Steen so far. Who knows whether it'll be Steen or Wellwood. Only time will tell.

i could attempt to do something like Dave Dombroski did for the Tigers (i understand it quite is a diverse game notwithstanding it quite works just about the comparable way). First, i could decide for a reliable veteran participant who's additionally a reliable chief, something like a Brendan Shanahan yet with a pair greater years left than him. He could have the skill to assist the gang win and instruct the greater youthful men. next, i could positioned various concentration on drafting. The mark of a reliable franchise in any game is a real point team with men that got here interior the path of the device. i'm undecided how Toronto has drafted interior the previous yet, it quite is largely a wager, seeing how they have performed in present day times it could no longer have been too reliable. in some unspecified time interior the destiny, there could be a surplus of youthful gamers, it quite is a sturdy sign which you're drafting properly. At that factor, i could deal some gamers for a guy or 2 that ought to take us over the actual and get the Leafs to the Cup. As for coaching, i'm undecided what i could do with Maurice. he's had some reliable factors yet i'm undecided if the down factors are him or a made from undesirable gamers. i could in all probability shop him around for somewhat to work out if it become one or the different. If that is him, i could fireplace him and hire somebody who will win. If it is not him, then I shop him till he needs to pass away.

everybody who likes toronto exaggerates every opportunity at possibly having the 'next big thing' or being a good team for once. kyle wellwood isnt that great, hes an alright player and will end up being a player with the same stature as richard zednik, jeff oneil or some other guy that just comes and goes. A big star is Ovechkin, Crosby, Bouwmeester etc.
ps - leafs will always suck. go habs go

Im not a leafs fan by any stretch of the imagination, however if i was going to pick the leafs next big star, it wouldnt be the talented wellwood, he's good, but not star power (personal opinion), i would lean more towards steen or stajan. But im sure theyll trade them off to other teams and bring some old fart in to replace em, or drag some retired player out of retirement.

NO SUCH THING AS ALLSTAR anymore.
in hockey its a team sport.
u cant score unless another good player passes it to you.
they need more depth.
what if the allstar gets hurt?
you need depth into ALL 4 lines, chemistry and speed to win.

Not so sure. He kind of reminds me of Sullivan but without Quin to hold him back. He will be good, but not amazing.
