I agree, it's ridiculous. I read in a magazine that thousands had been spent researching the question 'Is tomato sauce is more runny when you shake it as aposed to just letting it stand'" The answer was that it is more runny and so it makes it easier to pour if you shake it first.
So glad they told me but what a waste of money, I could have told them that.

first of all toast lands equally on both sides - it probability and you dont really care which side it lands on, however it is only when you apply butter do you care on which side it lands on you prefer one side over the other and one side (butter side) will ruin your toast and cause a mess - you will more likely remember it, if it lands on the other side (non-butter side) you may return to eating it or dispose of it without much though (no real clean up) so not usually a memorable moment.
Now for scientist who study these event. I have not heard of the study - outside "mythbusters" ( a tv shows that explores myths) But if there is a study i am sure that it is not to study the odds of butter side down - I am hoping (research money is better spent on things like cancer and other disease)
IF it is a waste i would like to see the results anyway to see how they quantified the data and what the stats were.

because money is being spent on research into why everything is, so why not the toast and butter thing, keeps em in a job, and puts silly little info, into the tabloid you seem to be reading.

This is a useful bit of research.
Remember that cats always land on their paws . .
So if you strap some buttered toast on a cat's back and drop it it will remain suspended in the air

We must, at all cost, keep those minds busy. The old adage "An idle mind is the Devi's workshop" is taken to heart by our government leaders I think.
