First of all, AOL is an ISP (Internet Service Provider), they provide access, a connection, to the Internet. They have an Internet browser linked into their software and that allows you to view pages from the Internet. Unless you have another Internet service provider (ISP), you must be signed on to AOL to view pages in Internet Explorer as Internet Explorer itself is not a service provider, just a browser.

While we're on the topic, Internet Explorer is notoriously full of security problems. You can download Netscape's browser for free and get a much more reliable and secure product. Either way, you will need an Internet connection, from AOL or some other service provider.

Well you have already done the first step by getting off AOL ><
next when ever you are working with an image file type of any kind
IE jpg, bmp, tiff, gif, png pay close attention when you install
applications such as kodak easy share and even AOL as they will change the file type so only those applications can access them :(
