There are TONS of things that could cause this. The top of the list is that you could be pregnant. Have you had sex since your last period? I don't care if you're on the pill, used a diaphram and a condom, you could still be pregnant. Go to the doctor, don't waste your money on a home test, because if it's positive you have to go to the doctor anyway and if it's negative but you still don't get a period you have to go to the doctor anyway.

If you haven't had sex, you could be stressed or not eating well enough. If you're really young it's normal to skip periods occasionally (if your first period was less than 2 years ago especially).

If you're getting older (50 or more) you could be pre-menopausal.

No matter what you really should go to the doctor if it's more than a couple weeks late.

If you're sexually active and have had any unprotected sex, you could be pregnant. You can take a home pregnancy test to see. Otherwise, have you lost or gained a significant amount of weight before your period stopped? That can also affect it. It happened to me in high school. I had never had sex before so I knew I wasn't pregnant. I had lost about 30 pounds in a short time and I didn't have a period for about 4 to 5 months. I was 130 pounds before I lost the weight so I was 100 pounds after I had lost it and that put me underweight since I was and still am 5'4 so it resulted in my not having my period. Once I put some weight back on, I got it back.

I used to have the same problem. I hope that you have checked if you are pregnant. If it is not that ,are you very overweight?. That was my problem it threw off my periods.( it messes up your estrogen levels ) Once I lost the weight, they returned to normal, You could also have polycystic ovaries(It is not cancer) or you could have a thyroid condition., Usually overactive thyroid can cause the period to go away. Check with your physician.

depends on your age and physical condition. if you are really young your system may still be in the process of getting your ovulation on track. if you are over weight then you weight may be causing your ovaries not to work correctly. if you are every so many more years than 20 then you may be out of eggs and your uterus does not produce the wall that it sheds during you menus.

Either way see you friendly neighborhood obgyn.

many things...
here are some questions to ask and you may find your answer..

are you sexually active, if so, have you been using protection?

are you stressed out?

are you on birth control, if so, what kind?

if you can answer some of those questions, the answer might be there...if not, go to your doctor and get a check up

Besides the obvious answers, it can also be an ovarian tumor or cyst, or also diet related.
