Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist. I am an independent, not a republican. I also find many conservative posts just as offensive. The difference is that conservatives don't consider themselves to be the most enlightened people on the planet. They also do not preach political correctness as a lifestyle. I know many liberals consider it protest, but there is a vast difference between stating ideas in protest and committing slander via character assassination.
What say you?

dba_gregg: I don't like or dislike liberals. I reserve those emotions for people I actually know. I do however disagree with many of their proposed policies.

Doug F: I said I am independent. This is because I do not agree with all the policies on either side and prefer to vote for the person rather than a party. I did not say I wasn't conservative in many of my views.

cosmiccastaway: I don't know why you have a hard time believing I am independent. Perhaps you are having trouble separating the terms Democrat, Republican and Independent from the terms liberal and conservative. The first 3 relate to party affiliation, the second 2 are political ideologies. I am conservative as previously stated, but do not belong to as a political party. I have also stated that both sides post offensive material, but if you think liberals are just repeating what they hear, you really need to read more critically. I can't count the number of posts I see a day calling all republicans pedophiles, war mongers, liars, sheep etc. These posts far out number republican posts of the same nature. Perhaps there are just more liberals on Yahoo Answers than conservatives. Additionally, even when choose to make a valid point, many still can't do so without taking a shot like stupid or brain washed to help try to make their point. Liberals are supposed to be the compassionate set.

I am a liberal Democrat and I find the extremes on both sides offensive. The problem I see with my brethren is that they are inept at defending their side.
For instance, I see alot of "It's Bush's fault" but when pressed they can't give FACTS to prove their point. Unfortunately too many Democrats think that because it's what they "feel" it is what is fact. Also, when you take the time to look into some of the claims made by the mid-left their "facts" are not true, it is just something they are repeating froman ill-informed source. It seems that Republicans do a much better job of presenting facts, that when researched are true. I may not agree with their conclusions but they don't tend to exaggerate the way the Democrats do.
Now as far as the far-left posts, they are offensive and usually have a socialist bent to them. But they equally as offensive as the far-right posts. Thank god that we in the middle are the majority and not the bigots OR the secular-progressives.

Well I say on this site many posts from all fronts have have been offensive. I don't' t agree with the preaching political correctness as a lifestyle a entity onto only the Dems, Reps are just as guilty. This is why we need to get rid of the party system, it wastes time and energy that could be spent on real issues

I say Republicans are very desperate. Democrats lead in most polls. The level of hate always goes up when Republicans get this worried about the loss of power. Why do you think we Democrats get called every name in the book when we bring up the fact that under Republicans America now has a $9 trillion debt projected over the next ten years? I am a conservative. Why is it that Republicans think the word "liberal" draws blood, it does not.
Clinton paid for his programs Bush and Republicans have put them on the VISA. Your Visa.

I have seen far fewer character assassinations from the Liberal side than I have the Conservative side. If you look at some posts by Shiraz, buffman316, Sarah, I Don't Hug Trees, Ah Ha, etc. -you will see some CLEAR unwarranted hatred. But, yes, I do agree with Tofu that it is offensive coming from anyone.

Bryan, I posted 2 seperate yet identical questions 2 or 3 nights ago. I asked 'Respectable Liberal Democrats ' about this very issue and 'Respectable Conservative Republicans' the same question. The reponses were one-sided. What I mean is, Dems responded with hatred (not all but many). The Reps responded with respect (again not all but many). Anyone is welcome to look at my profile and see for themselves. I did not expect it to be so one-sided, but it was. After several answers were submitted, I then revealed why I asked and I admonished the haters. I am a Conservative Republican and although it's impossible to be un-biased in that situation, I tried to be. I was sure that more 'Respectable dems' would admonish their own haters, but only one did. Sad, but TRUE.
EDIT* Oh one last point. Many times when we or I ask liberals to please answer the question and no hate needed, we get responses that say, "this is Yahoo, if you don't like it then go somewhere else". We can thank - iamct(see above)- and others like him/her for that nonsensical statement.

Hellvis had a good point.
How come I do not believe your independency. Well if anyone does I have a war that needs some help. We cant seem to find those damn WMD's.
Most political questions recieve idiot posts, but I have seen most hatred coming from the right, the left just gets mad at the repeated insults.

Both libs and cons post offensive material. Just look at some of the posts in this question.
Cons tend to come from a high-horse of morals but in a different way than libs do. Libs talk about morals in different ways.
Both sides preach in their own ways.
Both sides accuse the other as lying and being immoral.

95% of the posters who write offensive posts are not republicans, democrats nor independents but instead trolls who generate outrageous and emotional questions in order to get responses.
The majority of questions here have nothing to do with providing any kind of intellectual substance.

For an "independent" you certainly do seem to prefer one side over the other.
I've seen too many people on both sides of the argument who are guilty of what you're accusing liberals of, and claiming conservatives don't do (except for the line about preaching political correctness as a lifestyle...while I do know both conservatives and liberals who know when to be "polite" in mixed company, I don't know anybody who "preaches it as a lifestyle").
Both sides are equally guilty.

YES! What's especially offensive is when they try to label me. Or when they misinterpret my questions and answers.
Do a Y!A search of my name, and you'll see what I had to put up with from the left side of the spectrum. I also had impersonators (four of them)(they've all been suspended, ha ha! It happened while my internet was out, so they can't blame me!), and I had to deal with them going around to all of my answers and giving me thumbs-down.
Oh, and right now there's an, um, "open-minded" swinger that's answered my last two questions with rude comments. I think she didn't like one of my answers.
So yes, I do get sick and tired of them. There are decent liberals on this site, like Michelle and Humanist (for the most part, he's decent, I may not agree with him, but he's trying!), for example. The bad ones poison the rest of them.
There are plenty of bad conservatives, you're right. But they don't claim to be "open-minded" and "tolerant."
