I put a load of laundry in the dryer and 5 min later they went dim and tvs and steres were shutting off. Now, the only time the power is at full source is when the dryer is turned on. Once it is turned off the power weakens

(I wasn't going to answer this but my conscience got the better of me.)

CALL AN ELECTRICIAN *NOW*!!!!

If you try to fix this or play with your breaker box YOU WILL DIE!!

I hope I have your attention now. You have developed a serious problem with either the main power feed to your house or your breaker box. There is *not* a problem with your dryer (but there will be if you don't get an electrician). The electricity that enters your house (and breaker box) is 240 volts. Through some 'magic' (don't want to go into details) it gets split into two 120 volt circuits for most of your house but is left at full power for a few special items like your dryer. That 'magic' split has broken and when your dryer is on everything in your house is getting full power through the circuit that runs your dryer. Neither your dryer or that circuit is meant to take that kind of abuse and when it blows *really* bad things will happen (like fire or electrocution)!

This can only safely be fixed by a licensed electrician!

Edit:
Now that I'm awake would you please let us know that you got this fixed and are ok?

so the only time your lights stay bright is when the dryer is running? when it turns off they dim? did I read that right?

you have a short in the dryer. Unplug it and see if that helps. also it could be a short in the outlet for the dryer. in either case be careful. you may want to shut off the breaker to the dryer. it should be on it's own breaker and clearly marked.

Thats an odd one. Not a do-it-yourselfer. It sounds like who ever wired the place may not know what they are doing.
