To be able to appreciate pure music, without any lyrics telling you what to think drowning it out. Now, I really like music with lyrics in it too, but I like that classical music is always open to interpetation. You can think up a story (if you want) to go with the music, or you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the sound.

Because it IS music - not noise.
The test of true music is if it will still have a strong following 200 years after it's popularity has gone down.
Classical music will have that as long as there are people to listen to it.
It is emotional, sophisticated, and soothing. It is mathematics in sound. It is ultimate expression of genius. It is all things to all people.
It is immortal.

I think they like it because it takes us into the past. It's also very different than today's music. One can listen and think, you know that is great music, but only for a while.
