4 cyl. 97 civic starts and runs fine. When you turn it off, it will not start once the engine has warmed up. If you wait about 3-4 hours, then it will start right away and run fine. The motor turns over like normal, it just will not crank up.
I replaced the battery, the rotor, distributor cap and spark plugs.
What could it be. The starter is okay. It does not run hot. Any ideas???

Main relay, held in place under the driver side dash with one ten millimeter bolt and a connecor. About 80 bucks if purchased from a dealer. Very common failure item on hondas, this relay controls power to the fuel pump and injectors and will heat up and not work. If you open up the doors and cool it should start up.
Had a 94 civic 3 door come in with a knock in the right front control arm, i diagnosed it, ordered the part and went to drive the car out. *crank crank crank crank... etc* right in front of the customer. Opened the doors, started it up and ordered them a main relay. It happens.
All these other guys are wrong, trust me, its a main relay.

Sounds strangely familiar to a recurring dream I have....blowing up import motors for fun. There's a ton of interesting ways to send it on it's way. You need to decide if you want catastrophic failure at idle or while the vehicle is moving. I'd imagine you'd rather do it while sitting still and avoid any problems on the road and a long walk home. If you want to go for an elongated meltdown drain it down to about a quart of oil. Rev it up to near redline and within several minutes you'll hear the friction, a few more minutes and it should stop dead in it's tracks. You could also drain the coolant and let the head crack...this would produce some pretty interesting effects (lots of steam). Dropping needle bearings into the intake would produce some really catastrophic failure pretty quickly....along with a vast array of interesting sounds. The options are limitless really. It would be more fun to destroy while driving. Drop it into first gear and run it WOT (wide open throttle) for a few minutes, it will most likely throw a rod...maybe even put a dent in the hood. The stress on the motor while in gear will give it that extra oomph it needs to fail. Good luck...have fun and be safe!

That sound like 'fuel starvation'. Check the computer and the injectors. When hot... does the injectors are injecting fuel?? If yes... the you have serious problem maybe on the gaskets. Get an injector out and connect it when hot an try to start the car... you have to see the fuel coming out. Oh!! dont forget to pick me up as best answer.

Sounds like a stuck sensor/valve. This could be caused by increased vacuum with a warm engine. Do a quick google for "civic stalling" and you will be surprised of what will pop up.

Sounds like a sensor (temp, mix, etc.) or the electronic ignition module itself is going bad. They are solid state electronics and when they start to go bad they usually fail when hot (from the heat of the engine).

I agree with Jerr G. Take the coils off and have them checked, when the crack it wont fire when it gets hot. You may have coil packs, follow the plug wires from the plug and the box or boxes it plugs to is the coil pack. A parts store can check them for free. Good luck!

the most common problem on your car is the ignition igniter located inside the distributor.it color is brown with 4 treminals. when your car does not run again,remove the igniter and cool it.then reinstall and see if the car run.

take it to a mechanic for the amount of money you spent replacing parts that wern't needed you could have got areal diagnosis and had it fixed.cut your losses. A honda dealer might tell you for free

i already answered this question. you need to go have the codes checked at the parts store
if you want a guess, it's the main relay. go buy a repair manual will tell you where it is and how to test it.

check temperature sending unit and radiator fan switch,may be you radiator fan are not working caused engine over heated it will not start until temp in your engine drop to spec it act as safety switch so your engine won't blow up.
