iT IS AFFECTED. Global warming has an EFFECT on the soil and the soil is AFFECTED by the global warming.

If a ball hit you , you would be AFFECTED by the ball, whereas the ball would have had an EFFECT.

Hope this helps.

Affected for that one. This is one of the hardest ones in the whole English language, so don't feel bad about being unsure. Generally, "effect" is a noun and "affect" is a verb. The exception, which uses "affect" as a noun, mostly applies to psychology. But if you remember that shrinks are all a little crazy, you might remember.

Affect. Here's a helpful way to remember...

Affect Vs. Effect

"Affect" is usually a verb meaning "to influence".

The drug did not affect the disease.

"Effect" is usually a noun meaning "result".

The drug has many adverse side effects.

"Effect" can also be used as a verb meaning "to bring about".

The present government effected many positive changes.

It's affect. Effect is a noun, and affect is a verb. That should help you figure it out most of the time.
