The 2% would be a better choice since it will be more watered down. I might even water it down a bit more. You can almost expect the milk to have a negative effect on your baby such as constipation or diarrhea, but those things will go away. Don't let your baby be hungry!

I would NOT give cow's milk to a baby less than a year old unless your pediatrician says it's ok. Cow's milk is not easily digested by a baby, but it also depends on exactly how old your baby is. Almost a year old? Half a year? What??
I'm assuming you chose not to breastfeed, so surely there is a friend or relative you can borrow a few dollars from and get your child some formula.
If the doctor says no milk, then you can use rice cereal mixed with water or (baby) fruit juice.
Failing that let me know and *I'LL* send some money to you via Paypal (if you have it) or Western Union, whichever..... Just take care of that baby!!!!!!

If your baby is less than a year, especially less than 4-6 months, cow's milk is not nutritious enough for a growing infant---and has the potential to cause serious illness and allergy. You need to ask your pediatrician--or call your hospital's maternity ward--two things:
1. Which infant formula should you use for your infant
2. How can you get on a program called WIC, or Women, Infants, and Children. They'll provide a lot of necessaries for your baby.
Good luck to you and your baby.

I would call the Pediatrician and ask. It's recommended that you wait until age 1 to give cow's milk because of potential allergies or intolerance.
I gave my son cow's milk for the first time at 10 months, with his pedi's OK. But I still only gave it to him while he was training for a cup, otherwise it was formula.
Also, I hope your doc told you that when you DO start your baby on cow's milk, it should be whole milk, babies brains need the extra fat and cholesterol to grow.

It won't hurt. When I had my babies ( 2 over 3o years ago ), the doctors took the babies off formula when they were 2 months old and put them on 2% milk. Don't do it on a regular basis though, they need the formula for all the vitamins. What kind of formula is your baby on? Give me your address and I'll send you some. I know it won't help now, but for the future in case you run into the same problem. E-mail me. Ralisa49@yahoo

Hi - How old is your baby? If it's just one time and you really have nothing else, I would assume it's better than nothing. The reason pediatricians don't recommend cow's milk for infants is because it is low in iron, which babies need, and can cause intestinal bleeding, among other problems. See this link for more info - http://parenting.ivillage.com/baby/bnutrition/0,,3vvb,00.html
Do you have a pediatrician you can call for individual advice? Or a local clinic?
Good luck

You can call your local hospital and speak to someone in the maternity ward...Explain the situation and ask them if it is possible to get a few samples of formula(it's worth a try)I know hospitals here in NH would do that, especially where it is after hours and all other agencies are closed. You can also call your baby's doctor and ask about a sample..I know they have them. I cannot say how your baby will react to milk because I don't know the age. It is possible he/she will get diarrhea as it is harsh on their tummies.

Your baby is may not be ready for that kind of milk, it may cause severe stomach cramping and constipation. If you are still lactating try that first, call your pediatrician or health dept they may have a sample bottle or two laying around they can give you for the time being

It's said that something in the cow's milk (some protein or how the protein is formed) is very difficult for babies to digest. So, giving your baby regular milk may upset baby's tummy, and give him gas. So, you will have fed him, but made him (and you) miserable.

My kid was off formula and drinking milk and juice by 8 months. I think the only thing to worry about would be if your child is sensitive to it or allergic. I would phase it in rather than go at it all at once like this. Have you given any foods yet? Maybe mashed potatoes or baby oatmeal? My little one was not filling up with formula so that's why I started early. Check with your doc please. Going at it all at once might be bad.
