With so many people who lost their home, and thousands of homes on the market, was it tough for a realtor at the time to make a living?

Joseph Kennedy got rich buying up people's property at a loss. But for the most part, the Depression was hard on everybody.

Realtors sold and resold the same property over and over in the depression. If somone miss a payment they would evict them and resell it with little down. The same house could be sold over 30 times before someone made all the payments and the realtor got commission on every one

Why would being a realtor be lucrative if everyone was losing their home and no one could afford to buy

No. Ask any realtor. You make money when everybody has money. The fastest way to lose value in real estate is through depression and war.
