First of all, "norman" is not a position for a H-D fuel petcock. I don't know who norman is, but he should not be on your petcock. There are three positions on a "stock" H-D petcock. Off is one (And should be used when you are not riding for a day or two!) and the other, next in a stock bike, is the "line". The regular fuel flow. When your are riding, and low on juice, the bike will start to hiss and pop. That's when you learn the H-D finger tricks. You reach down, on a late model stock H-D, and flick the lever. You do your best to remember which direction it is, too! On the street it's not too bad, but on the hiway you can get major engine damage running lean. The "normal" progression is center for regular tank feed, forward for off, and back for reserve. Now, I have a "Pingle" on my bike. It's completely different. But if you have a "norman" on you fuel line, you need to make some friends in the motorcycle communmity. Good Luck!

Try looking in your owner's manual. On my Harley FXD the noon position is maked as"ON". The three o'clock position is marked "OFF". The six o'clock position is marked "RES". All I do is turn the valve so the shorter end with the notch in it sits next to the "ON" designation and the longer portion of the valve is over the "RES". I don't know which model and year your bike is but I think all Harley's are probably the same.

I found out the hard way. for the gas to be "on" the long part of handle points down. think of it as an arrow, point it the way the gas flows from the tank. the reserve side is pointed up.

Straight down is on ,reserve is the opposite of off. Spend a few bucks and get yourself a 'Pingle' petcock, smoother action and better flow.

look very carefully at the handle, there is an arrow on it. point the arrow to 'on' to turn it on, point the arrow to 'res' to go to reserve and 'off' to turn it off.
pre-mix 32 to 1, 6 to 8 weeks, consult your owners manual.
