If you want something more than wet rocks forget solar. To power a pump large enough for good flow you would spend thousands for solar. Give in and run a 115v line underground. An electrician would be quite a bargan compared to solar. To save on his labor, you can cut a narrow trench first.

Solar power with rechargeable batteries might work, but you need a lot of sunlight most of the day to fall on the solar panel.

Definitely check out solar power. I volunteered at a fundraiser this past weekend, and they auctioned off solar-powered birdbath/fountains. Very cool.
