Those who claim that it is a choice, belong to the category below:
"It has long been held that, deep down, homophobes are really self-hating homosexuals. Now comes evidence to support that notion. According to a study published in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, homophobic men are far more likely to be arounsed while watching gay sex videos than are nonhomophobic men.
A research team led by Henry Adams, a professor of clinical psychology at the University of Georgia, recruited 64 young white male heterosexuals and showed them a video depicting heterosexual sex and another depicting homosexual sex. Their responses were measured by a gauge detecting penile erection. The result: 80% of the homophobic men showed a response to the gay video, while only one third or the nonhomophobic men did. "Men who are upset by being around gay men probably have these tendencies themselves," Adams said in the February issue of Esquire magazine. "The thing you dislike most in yourself is the kind of thing you might jump on somebody else for."

If you feel that people "choose to be gay", then, my friend, you are still dreaming. The majority of gays will inform you that they were always gay. People who say they "chose to be gay" are actually bisexual, and, thusly, creating negative image of the gay man. If you ask any gay man, they will most likely say at one point or another, they wanted to be straight.
Did you wake up one morning and say,"you know, being gay does look like fun, but I think being straight will be more fun." I highly doubt it. It just sorta happened that way. You had thoughts of the opposite sex. Well, gays had thoughts of the same sex.
So, please, step back and take another look at your world.

Gay people don't choose to be gay. Many gay people choose to be straight, though, to avoid all the discrimination you just mentioned.

I think you're all missing the point - I think the post was trying for irony and sarcasm. Tori_Bird sounds as if he/she is talking to the homophobes and asking them if it sounds logical that anyone would actually "choose" to be gay knowing what a life of hatred they have to look forward to if it was actually a such a "choice". I don't think he/she is agreeing that living a GLBT life is a choice.

People don't wake up one day and 'decide' that they are gay. It's not like that at all. Do you think straight people wake up one day and 'decide' to be straight? It's really silly to suggest so.
