Celexa is an antidepressant. It comes in 10, 20, & 40 mg. If you start to take it, it will take 1 week to 10 days to feel a noted improvement. Lexapro is very similar.
Celexa generic name = Citalopram
Lexapro generica name = Escitalopram
There are many antidepressants such as Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil, and Luvox just to name a few. Celexa & Lexapro seem to have the least side effects. Everybody is different, ask your Dr. for samples. Alot of people seem to want to try Zoloft first.
Antidepressants are called SSRI= Selective Serotonin reuptake Inhibitors. SSRI's prevent the movement of the neurotransmitter serotonin into nerve endings. This forces serotonin to remain in the spaces surrounding nerve endings, increasing its action.
celexa can also improve mood and mental alertness, increase physical activity and improve sleep patterns.
Anti depressants seem to work best taken before going to bed instead of the morning. Take care.

Celexa is an antidepressant. *smiles* It does not send you into a "manic episode" if you are manic depressive, or so I was told by my doctor when I was put on it. I stopped taking it, but only because I needed something to combat ADD symptoms that were causing the mild depression I had been having as well.
