I just stopped breastfeeding my second daughter, she is nine months old, and I am trying to figure out which formula to give her. With the first, I gave her Enfamil lipil exclusively. This time around I am wondering how good the generic versions are. Specifically the Kirkland (Costco) brand...or any others people know about. Are they just as good? What are the pros/cons beyond price. Thanks!

When I was in Costco today I did compare the ingredients and they weren't as close as I thought they'd be.
Kirklands begins:
Ingredients: Nonfat Milk, Lactose, High Oleic Safflower Oil, Coconut Oil; Less than 2% of....
Enfamil begins:
Ingredients: Nonfat Milk, Lactose, Vegetable Oil (Palm Olein, Soy, Coconut and High Oleic Sunflower Oils), Whey Protein Concentrate and Less than 1% of....

My pediatrician and also several articles in the various parenting magazines that I have read all say that generic formulas are fine. They all have to meet basic government requirements. I used name brand for my first baby and generic for my second two, and found no difference whatsoever. Save the money adn go for it!

When you go to Costco, check the ingredients of Kirkland brand with Enfamil. Most of the time, its the same. If they are and much cheaper, why not try.

The best cheaper formula brand my doctor recommended what the Good Start with DHA & ARA. It's about $9-$10 a can depending where you are. Our daughter had a lot of stomach trouble in the beginning too, and it settled very well with her. Nothing to offer on anything else though, sorry! Good Luck!

well, formula is regulated by the food and drug add. so it is the same as far as ingrediants. i myself used generic formula but the liquid, cause the powder dont disolve well.
i used to pump my breastmilk and freeze it. also babies that are breastfed really dont like to take a bottle if they know what you got under your shirt! having someone else help out eases that transition.
so i would mix 3/4 breast milk with 1/4 formula, one week later 1/2 & 1/2, and so on until it was completely formula, then when she was ready for milk i followed the same method. it was easier on her belly. hope you like my answer

My son's pediatrician said they are basically all the same. I fed my son parent's choice for a year and now he is on the stage 2 formula and he is healthy as can be. They are so cheap because they don't advertise. Formula companies pay Docs to give samples and try to get people to use their formulas. They wouldn't be out on the market if they weren't suitable to feed to your baby. I'm all for the store brand.

Enfamil is great. I recommend it. It's pricier, but I actually signed up for something on their site and I get coupons all the time and two days ago I got two free cans of it in the mail. Not sure if you can still sign up for that, but it's got some great perks!

Do the Nestle Good Start. When I signed up with them they gave me like 3 or 4 $11.00 off coupons in the mail. I also really like there formula. A good product at a good price. I think you can buy this stuff in bulk at Cosco. Go to: www.verybestbaby.com.

You just need to compair the labels and if the ingredients are similar if so then its good.Alot of medicines, formulas, etc. are all exactly the same and are even made by the same factory and just get diffrent labels put on them for retail.

hey there, when i was pregnant my doc told me that if i wasnt going to breast feed, make sure i gave my baby formula...and that it didnt matter what kind because they are all the same...you could even go to the store and get a brand like Similac Advance ( thats what i used after i stopped breast feeding) and then get a generic brand and compare the ingredients...well i hope this helps you !!!Good Luck!!:)

Enfamil lipil causes gas and fussiness. Go with Gentlease with lipil where the lipil is broken down and easy to digest better because it helps burp, fart, poop, and gets rid of the fussiness.
