While it sounds painful and I doubt i'll try it, I was just wondering is fisting a sexual act that just recently became popular, or has it been around for awhile? I had never even heard of it until recently. Is it dangerous? Couldn't doing this possibly put a woman at risk for some internal damage?

its been around since man found he could do what ever he wanted to women as long as he used nice words to convince her...meaning its been around for ages and yes, when i was in high school a friend of mine was convinced this was a great thing for her because her bf wanted it so badly...the result a torn colon that require 3 hours of surgery, several stitches, an embarrassing run to the emergency room, several weeks of painful 'eliminations', no sex and a life time of scarring which resulted in having to tell every doc she has to see from then on....further result, her bf left...that was the only good thing about it.

I heard the comedian Margaret Cho do a sketch about that a few years ago. There are some really kinky people out there and they enjoy stuff like that. I would have to assume that unless whoever is doing it is really slugging then no, there wouldn't be serious damage. Maybe just a really sore vagina. You have to figure that a woman can give birth to a 9 pound baby. Women's bodies are pretty intriguing.

Yes, there are obvious risks. Obviously this activity needs to be done with tons of patience, and tons of lube, if at all.
For some people, a little (little??) pain mixed in with their pleasure enhances the experience. That is why people do it. See also, "spanking", "S&M", etc.

It has been around for a long time, probably since sex became okay (outside of marriage.) It is not dangerous if done properly, but I would not let someone do it to me. It is a sexual act that is about control not love.

It's been along for ages and is popular with gay men, it is not good for the muscle of the anus and does cause stretching and weekness,even leakages of faeces do not do this.......

It's been around for a long time in the gay community. It's mostly a male on male activity. It can cause serious injury if not done correctly. I don't recommend it for men or women.
