Global warming, resulting in the melting of the ice caps, would in turn reduce the sea levels, revealing more land

The ice caps would be completely below water, raising the water level drastically. Water is the only liquid that expands when it freezes, so technically, the ice caps take up more space now than they would if they were liquid. On the other hand, since the ice is less dense, it floats, meaning that a good part of the ice caps are actually above the water. If they were less dense, they would sink, and the water levels could eliminate a good portion of the coastal areas on the planet.

The ice would displace the melted water in the Artic, or any other body of water. Water levels would rise, and there would be less land mass covering the Earth and a great percentage of water covering the surface of the Earth. Less land for people to live on, greater popuation density, food shortage, etc.
