It depends on what Customs do when they get it. Normally the courier will send you a letter inviting you to pay before they can get the thing out of customs, and often they just add on the VAT plus a handling charge.

That's what happens if the seller used US Postal Service, because USPS goes into the hands of the delightful Parcel Farce when it hits our shores, and that's how they do it. They don't do it very well though. Hope you weren't in a hurry for that drill...

If you're lucky, they used UPS, in which case the same happens, but quicker.
