One Christmas, I was all alone, My kids were spending Christmas in Hawaii with their dad, My mom went to visit my sister and I lived in a town where I didn't know very many people yet. I was asked to house and animal sit for some neighbors and not having anything else to do, I accepted.
They hadn't decorated because they were leaving, except on tiny artificial tree on a table that I think they put up for my sake.
Any way, I decided to focus on the reason for the season...Jesus... and to put myself aside. I lit a fire on Christmas Eve and fell asleep watching Christmas movies on the couch.
When I woke up Christmas morning, it had snowed, and it was so quiet that it was almost "loud". I had a peace I had never known before, I knew I was in the presence of God. It was a beautiful experience.
So, yes, the Spirit of Christmas is much more important than presents.
Or should I say...Presence is more important than presents.

Even more so. I am so sad Christmas day, because it is all over. I rather be without gifts then have to give up enjoying the season.

I actually prefer the spirit of Christmas more than getting gifts, usually. Actually, I love getting gifts, don't get me wrong, but I have a weird thing about opening them in front of people. =)

I LOVE searching out the perfect gift for someone, though -- especially when I actually find it. I'm known in my family for making gifts for everyone every year. Everyone in my family has everything they need, and I loose track of everyone's wants. Christmas is the perfect time of year to give them something homemade -- especially something crocheted in my family, because my grandmother passed away in 1992, and she is the one who taught me to crochet. She used to make stuff for everyone all the time.

I don't have time to make gifts anymore, but I love seeking out the perfect thing for someone.

Seeing someone's eyes light up when I have surprised them either with a gift they weren't expecting, some baked items or just an act of kindness (even to strangers) is actually more fun to me than getting a gift.

If you do something or get someone a thing they really enjoy or need and they appreciate it, it's great! Presents are nice, but giving is great! And I love the whole happy atmosphere!
