They want to preserve those freedoms. The settlers were mostly here for religious freedom. They even wrote protecting their ability to worship the religion of choice and prohibit the creation of a state religion into the constitution.
It is modern liberals who want to eliminate any form of religious worship.

Liberal ancestors? Let's examine that statement shall we?
A few of the Founding Fathers beliefs.
The right to bear arms - under liberal assualt
Small government with power assigned to the states - Liberals big government with centralized federal control
Free Speech - Liberals only if we deem it politically correct
Separation of church and state mandating that no federal religion be created. Liberal no indication of religion in school, or related to any government facility.
Fought a war over outrageous taxation without representation - Liberals tax and spend to fund social programs.
The Founding Father believed that people should live their lives free from as much government intervention as possible. The liberal model is live free, but only in areas we deem appropriate. If we don't like what you are doing we will change it through legislation. If that doesn't work then we will change it through the courts.
The Founding Fathers believed in a Constitution which was absolute and difficult to change. Liberals believe the Constitution is and I quote "A living breathing document".
The Founding Fathers were neither liberal nor conservative, they were instead an interesting mix of the 2 extremes who came together with the intent of what was best for all. These men were extremely intelligent and had amazing foresight. I for one am constantly in awe of this fact. They clearly saw many ills facing us today and sought to protect the masses from tyranny. I for one believe they did an excellent job. If you believe republicans are assualting freedom show concrete examples and not just open ended indictments based on no debatable facts.

The Republican party uses fear tactics get support. Unfortunately, this makes people afraid to vote for Democrats, but it also makes them so afraid that they willingly give up liberties. Who questioned the first Patroit Act? Why doesn't the president have to justify his wiretapping and torture? All we get are his assertions that everything he does is necessary to the war on terror and that he is protecting our freedoms.

Great attempt at liberal propaganda, but you are way off base.
Conservatives defend our freedoms to the death, unlike many liberals who want to roll over and let the rest of the world walk all over us.

I don't believe they hate it. I believe that they trust their government to take freedoms away from only those that don't agree with it. Republicans LOVE their freedom, but they won't move a muscle to defend yours. Ann Coulter thinks that freedom should be taken away from anyone that doesn't agree with her.
