Both my hubby and I are over weight. I have read often that weight can cause trouble in conceiving. What is your experieince? When I say we are over weight, I mean me by 50 lb and hubby by much more. I am 35 and he is 44.

Constructive answers, please!

I have conceived twice before - one at a normal weight and the other at a higher one. The same case with my hubby. I make sure I take folic acid and try not to eat a lot of red meat. I crave vegetables anyway, so I get all of the food groups. I am just curious if any of you have experienced this while TTC.

I'm not sure how it affects men, but I know that it can make it hard for a woman to get pregnant. It took me 2 years to get pregnant with our 2nd child. Bear in mind, I was still carrying around the extra 80 lbs that I put on during the 1st pregnancy. I went to the dr. and after some tests, she said I had poly cystic ovarian syndrome which was causing me not to ovulate. She said that the poly cystic ovary thing can often be caused by being overweight and she suggested I try losing at least 10-20 lbs. I exercised and changed my diet and in 3 months I lost 35 lbs. Then the next month, I got pregnant, so I think the weight was definitely impacting my chances in getting pregnant. Good luck to you!

Yes it could impact it....if your healthy and active and eat well then it should not. If you don't exercise and eat like CRAP then yes it will have a negative impact. Make sure your hubby isn't drinking alot and is eating right...this will improve your chances..

also try taking 400mcg a day of Folic Acid Vitamin Supplement until you conceive...this will improve the chances TRUST ME! You can get it at any grocery store.

I have heard that weight can have an impact on conceiving. However, I know many individuals that are overweight that had absolutely no problems conceiving. None whatsoever. I think weight can have an impact during pregnancy more than during conception. Gestational diabetes and such can become an issue (but also for women that are not overweight).

But I think you and your husband will do just fine! Many of us that are not skinny minnies have babies every day. Just talk with your Ob/Gyn and make sure you follow his/her suggestions for vitamins and whatnot.

Good luck!

Yes I have heard that it does, why not try losing some weight for both of you, you will probably feel healthier and more attractive wich leads to more sex, also it is better to be at a healthy weight before pregnancy. I was about 30 pounds over weight and was having a lot of problems with my period hormonely. My doc told me to drop the pounds to help and it did. I would assume it would be the same for pregnancy. Good luck.

Yes.....I have PCOS and am overwiehgt and conceiving has been a bear (lost of meds involved) for us and my pregnancies have all been highrisk....I am 5'7 and 240....so my BMI is high. Calculate your BMI....fertility decreases if your BMI is above 29.
