I really believe it's up to the individual on this Evil Holiday. As A Believer in our Lord, I should be a light house on that day and not fear it. I have heard some so called Christians that is afraid of this day and makes a sign I don't praticipate on this evil day and it's all evil. Well, that note just threw off a red flag that the people there are mean and cruel and don't care about the kids and children of the neighborhood.
Halloween should have some guidelines of what should and shouldn't do on that day to keep people safe. We aren't living in our times when we were able to go out and go three or 5 blocks away and not worry about getting kidnapped. These days you have terriost attacts, Gangsters, rapests and child molesteors and all sorts of stuff.
If I had children I would allow them to dress up as a Good charector and go to the people they know and I'll give them Candy and treats that day.

Halloween like most traditions are not the same anymore and it certainly isnt safe to let a group of young ones out without a responsible adult. I like the parents that take their sweet witches and ghosts out to houses they know rather than knocking on every door. I will have a pumpkin outside and some non nasty coloured sweets...might even whizz around on my broomstick ;-)
Unfortunatly is has become about money especially for older kids, just another form of begging. Like Guy fawkes, they say penny for the guy and if you gave them a penny they would throw it back at you lol
Interesting fact about witches and pagans, they generally use this night to remember the ancesters and loved ones that have passed on perhaps with some small ritual of a special meal, wine and a small prayer.

Thankfully it isn't took literally. I let my daughter go with her friend and her mum but they just get lots of sweets. I wouldn't let her go if I thought she was doing the trick part of it. Even though I'm happy to let her out to pester people on their doorsteps, I sit at home with the door firmly locked and completely ignore the kids that knock on my door because it gets on my nerves!
