Sounds like a cooling problem. Check your fans to make sure they are turning. Place a hand near any exhaust vent to see if air is actually blowing out. If it is the fan, it doesn't take much heat to shut the system down, it a safety feature. Good Luck!

Is this an original Xbox or a 360? A lot of 360s have been having problems, especially launch units.
If your system isn't overheating like the other poster said, then you probably need to get it serviced. I have a hard time believing your system would overheat in 20 seconds, assuming it was off for an extended period of time before that, but who knows.
If this is a 360 you're talking about, I hope it's under warranty. Otherwise you might simply have to replace it. Should you have to send your system off for replacement, specify that you want a new unit, not a refurbished one.

get it checked out but i would say its cuz xbox is lame but you probably have some sort of issue in your system just like a lot of electronics do just take it to somoene who can fix it and they will make it better (if making an xbox anything less than garbage is possible)
