How to read tire sizes:

205/75/R15
205 is the width of the tire in millimeters
75 is the percentage aspect ratio. or in this case 75% of 205mm or about 154mm. This is the height of the rubber from the road to the rim.
R means radial tire.
15 is the diameter of the rim in inches.
Generally a 5% increase or decrease in tire diameter won't affect much. To figure out the diameter multiply the first two numbers and divide the result by 1270. Then add the rim diameter. The result is the tire diameter. The above example is 27.106" if you want to check.

Avoid going larger than 10 on the width as it'll probably rub when you turn the wheel.

Here in Canada the rule of thumb for winter tires is to make them as skinny as possible. Why? A skinny tire will dig into the snow and ice because the contact patch is smaller. A fat wide tire will act more like a snowshoe and get on top of the snow and you won't have any real traction if you try to turn or stop.

I hope this helps.

215 is slightly wider in width than a 205. They make 225,235,245 and so on. The bigger the number the wider the tire. Not all vehicles will accept larger tires either. Certain retailers will not put any other size tire than the manufacturers tire size for that particular vehicle.

I would go with the wider tires. The only difference if you change the height of the tire is changing the speedometer just a tad. It wouldn't be noticable. Ironically narrower tires are better during the winter because they have less of a footprint to slip. I'm totally serious.

The 1st 3 digits is your tire width, so the 215 is a bit wider. The 75 series is a tall tire, and the 70 series tire is a bit wider, so my suggestion is the 215/70/R15. This is the tall wide tire, better handling and traction for you. The 75 gives a little softer ride and maybe a bit better gas economy on the highway.
good luck.........

When you go to purchase the tires and wheels, they can tell you the exact size you can use.
