Remove BearShare.
Start>My Computer>(C:)drive>Program Files
Find BearShare folder, Select it and push Delete.

BearShare is notorious for viruses and spyware.
Download FrostWire instead!
FrostWire, although very much like LimeWire, will never offer a paid version or a subscription service for the download or use of the FrostWire application. FrostWire is a not-for-profit project. They will never bundle their software with any type of adware, spyware, malware or collect any personal or private data.

Edit - If you have Avast, Bearshare has probably changed your homepage; try changing it back. Have you tried a System Restore? Start - programs - accessories- system tools - system restore.

Thats not a virus, its a trojan.
Before attempting to remove malware you must switch off System Restore as back up files will be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run AVG anti Spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Then beef up your security. Its easier to prevent malware getting on to your sytem in the first place rather than trying to remove it.

The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out. Zone Alarm firewall is free for personal use and stops unwanted incoming and outgoing traffic. You choose which programs are allowed to access the internet. It's fairly easy to use and updated regularly.

That might not be a virus. Try changing your home page. Go to Tools, Internet Options, type in the address, click Apply and OK.

its coming up with bearshare not because its a virus, its because when you download bearshare, it asks if you would like to make bearshare your homepage. and you said yes subconsciously

That is EXACTLY what you get fro trying to get something for free..SUCKS doesn't it?

Downloading Pirated Software, music and movies is 100% ILLEGAL!

What programs did you use to scan for Viruses and Spyware?

Some are crap and won't do you any good.

Adaware:
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-100459...

Spybot S&D:
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-101221...

AVG Antivirus:
http://www.download.com/avg-anti-virus-f...

I recommend installing Adaware first, update it and then have it scan and remove spyware. Then uninstall it, and install Spybot S&D, update it then have it scan and remove spyware.
Then uninstall it.
Then install AVG and update it, have it scan your PC for viruses.
