i keep getting a message that there are no mixer devices available, how do i fix this

The most easyer way is to buy a good and reliable sound blaster.
Or you might want to reinstall the sound card driver or even update it through the net according to the sound card's type.

The cable from the mother board to the CD rom might be loose. Or you must reinstall the drivers. Or activate the sound under "install software" in control panel

Try to uninstall and reinstall your sound driver. I hope this works. If it does not put a search in for the manufacturers of your sound card and see what solutions they have.
