A hat trick in hockey is when the same player scores 3 goals in the same game. If one player scores 3 goals in a row, with no one else in between scoring, then it is called a natural hat trick.

A hat trick is scoring three goals in a game, a natural hat trick is scoring three goals without anyone else on the team scoring between them. Oh and yes it is SCORING three goals. To the goof and his comment about the shoot-out, those are SCORED except the one that wins it. So if you get a goal in the shoot-out and no one else does then yeah actually it would STILL be a hat trick. As to the one defining it in different sports it isn't a hat trick in baseball, it is BATTING FOR THE CYCLE, or HITTING for the cycle. No one calls that a hat trick.

A hat trick is when a player scores three or more goals in a game. Bill Mosienko scored the fastest hat trick with three goals in 21 seconds. A Gordie Howe hat trick is when you score a goal, get a assist and win a fight in a game.

With regard to a couple of the above answers, if you score the third goal on an empty net, does that complete the hat trick? OF COURSE IT DOES. So why would you not include a shootout goal? It is still the third goal!
