By wealthy, do we mean total incomes, most taxes, least fiscally responsible?
I was under the impression that Cal. was operating always in a deficit. Is that still true? I think Cal. and NY have the highest tax rates in the country, but I'm not sure if that's what you mean.
Cal. does have a lot of extremely rich movie stars, so income-wise maybe that makes it the wealthiest?

The wealthiest state is not California but Connecticut with a per capita income of $47,819. The next wealthiest is Massachusetts with a per capita income of $44,289. Third wealthiest is New Jersey with a per capita income of $43,771.
