After scraping the insides of a pumpkin out... do I let it dry or put on the lid? (there are still a few stringy things left). Do I put it upside down & soak in water then dry to make it last longer?

I think that you should let it dry out before covering it.

Rub the outside before you carve it with vegetable oil (or PAM) and that's all you have to do. Carve it now and it will ast till Halloween. And no, you don't have to let it dry out before putting the top back on.

I just read that you can keep it in the fridge overnight to extend the life. Also, it said if you rub Vaseline on all cut surfaces, inside as well, it will last much longer. I wouldn't expect more that a week out of it just the same.

I don't do that...I just carve it up once it's scraped out. it may not last too terribly long, but that's why i carve it close to Halloween. If I carve one early I might get another one so as to have a freshly carved one for Halloween night.

I've always heard to put lemon juice in it and rub it around inside the pumpkin. It seems to kinda work.

Just use your gourd.
