These two snakes require differnt conditions. The garter snake is from northern america and is a woodland water sanke which survives by eatng worms, small anphibians and small fish. The Ball or royal python comes from east africa and requires much warmer & dryer conditions and a diet of small rodents when young and large ones as it grows. The garter may reach as size of 30" while the royal may grow to over 48". Please do not consider keeping them in the same enviroment.

relies upon what you prefer a snake for. in case you prefer one that strikes around lots and makes a solid speaking factor or reveal animal - then you definately are suited going with a corn snake by way of fact the colour morphs are in basic terms countless those days and that they are somewhat much less costly. They have been advertising for everywhere between £20 and £80 on the Doncaster reptile practice. Corns in many cases feed ok and are an extremely docile snake, an stunning "starter". the size differs consistent with sort, yet paintings on around 4 to 5 ft. they look getting somewhat greater when you consider that being captive bred. A corn snake is of course, a rat snake. Royal Pythons are chunky snakes, in many cases docile and since the call shows, curls right into a ball and is satisfied to proceed to be that way lots of the time. they are magnificent animals yet not very energetic. Feeding may be a real subject with Royals and can be very problematical to somebody with little adventure of dealing with this. fee? properly, i bypass back to the Doncaster reptile practice 2 weeks in the past, a classic Royal must be offered at many stalls for £40 each. the colour morphs for the Royal are genuinely outstanding although - the only subject is that the asking expenditures for those are the two outstanding, some fetching numerous thousand pounds each. another element to contemplate is the enclosure or vivarium. Corns prefer room to go around as they are very energetic. Royals do not and positively get under pressure if their area is in basic terms too huge, in my adventure Royals look happiest whilst they have close, known atmosphere extremely than a extensive sort of room to spare. Do your self a favour and bypass to a professional reptile save and ask, ask, ask away!! perform a little of your individual examine too. ultimately, do not purchase any animal devoid of having considered it feeding. i won't rigidity this sufficient!!!

I dont think you will have a problem with them together, however not for ever. Ball pythons do not eat other snakes so they should be fine for a while because each snake will need its own habbitat. just make sure that you check the python for any ticks of mites before putting in with the garter snake!!
Good luck!!

Snakes should be housed separately, particularly if they are of different species.
Find out if the ball has been captive bred or not. If it was caught in the wild, it may have troubles with refusing to eat. Captive bred balls usually do not have this problem.
If you get the ball, go to ballpython.net for a great group of people who will be happy to give you help with your ball python!

from what I know, I thought garter snakes eat lizards !?!
I wouldnt put the two snakes together. One word of advice if you DO get the ball python.... they are harder to get to eat! The present owner probably cant get it to eat. If you DO get it, make sure you see the owner feed it! and find out more about his feeding schedule.

Don't keep these 2 snakes together, please. They both require different environments. Also, if you feed a Ball Python live food and cover the box you feed it in, they will eat their food. Most Ball Python's who refuse to eat are either: not hungry, scared, sick, don't feel safe and secure, or the prey is too large for them to consume.
