I'm not a mac user, so I need some help with a mac problem. I have a mac laptop (not sure what model it is) but the screen is badly cracked. My goal is to try to get the laptop to run on a regular screen while the laptop is closed. So is there any way to have a mac laptop closed and running?

Yeah. You have to have power connected, external keyboard/mouse (usb/bluetooth/wireless), and an external monitor. You close the lid, let it go to sleep, and then you wake it up by pressing any key on your keyboard (if using BT, enable "allow BT devices to wake up computer"). And that's it!

There's also a program called "Sleepless" that ensures your portable Mac doesn't go to sleep on lid close, although mine stopped working after the 10.4.8 update.

I do tech support for Apple. I'm not sure what model you have either as you were not descriptive enough. You probably could get another monitor hooked up to the portable, but you'd have to have an external USB mouse/keyboard to access your files. You may want to look in eBay for a similar one used as you may be able to replace the top cover. Go to the website provided & enter your serial number where provided at bottom R of page, then click on "Show Me My Product's Details". From that you'll know what parts to look for. You will need an adapter to hook up to the 2nd monitor.
