We should have liberty and the right to do whatever we want with our bodies, including ending our lives. A law against suicide is nonsensical. There are more involved arguments with assisted suicide and euthenasia. Should I be allowed to give the overdose to my quadreplegic wife/husband/partner? If I can do that, what proof is necessary that they really wanted to die?

I believe in assisted suicide, with a whole set of rules and regulations to protect the innocent. Oregon seems to have it right, as does the Netherlands.

In the U.S. suicide has never been treated as a crime nor punished by property forfeiture or ignominious burial. (Some states listed it on the books as a felony but imposed no penalty.) Curiously, as of 1963, six states still considered attempted suicide a crime--North and South Dakota, Washington, New Jersey, Nevada, and Oklahoma. Of course they didn't take matters as seriously as the Roman emperor Hadrian, who in 117 AD declared attempted suicide by soldiers a form of desertion and made it--no joke--a capital offense.

A law for suicide? How can they press charges if the person is dead? The law is tho that if someone attempts,,they are taken in for an evaluation & treated which is a good thing.

Permitting assisted suicide, yes. If a woman can terminate a growing fetus inside of her, it seems only sensible that a person can terminate their *own* life.

It's a stupid law. If you want to kill yourself (without hurting anyone else, of course), you should be allowed.

What harm does it do?
