I understand it is all about Jesus. I like the saying Jesus is the reason for the season. But, I don't see anything wrong with saving a little time by writing X-Mas. I don't see it as any type of disrepect at all.

Using X has nothing whatsoever to do with it becoming or being secular. X in the Greek is Christos which is where the title Christ comes from. I have met several conservative Christian pastors who will even tell you this is true. So writing Xmas is no different at all than writing Christmas, other than the letter count.

No I don't hate it. CHRISTMAS IS NOT JESUS' BIRTHDAY
look up the origin of christmas. The Catholics came up wit the holiday to satisfy the people. We do not know when Jesus' birthday is. It never was about Him and never will be. He gave us a lot of Feast that he wanted us to celebrate but His birth was not and is not one of the. Why are you people afraid of the truth.? If you want to celebrate the day and enjoy a time with your family and give them gifts that is a good thing, but don't be conned into thinking that you are celebrating Jesus birthday. Know the truth and it will set you free. I am a born again, tongue talking, Bible believing Christian. God Bless you.

History Lesson--
Way back in the day, when Christianity was pretty new, and the "Bible" was still only written in Greek, the first letter of the Greek word for Christ in the Greek alphabet-- well, it looks like a "X"...... Anyway, out of reverence to His name, to avoid loosing the feeling of reverence by repeatition, many would replace the whole word with just the initail... It would be like writing "JC" instead of out "Jesus Christ".
Yes, I know there are those who are bothered by this, but as a Christain who understands the history behind the term, I really don't mind.

If someone writes xmas how does it hurt your beyond your senisibilites? Maybe you should consider that the US (if you are from the US) is a country with no religion. So, the holiday Christmas is a secular holiday recognized by a secular government.

I agree 100%. I wish people would get back in touch with what Christmas is really about. It has become way to commercialized now. I dont think it means anything to people any more. I am not going to fall prey to the laziness that seems to be taking over. We should start a national campaign to make people understand why they celebrate Christmas.

Yes. Have you ever heard the saying.... take Christ out of Christmas, and all you are left with is the mas (mess).
I have also seen on this site were they write Xtians instead of Christians. They should wonder why saying His name bothers them so much!!!!

Uh, you know something? The X stands for Christ. Maybe some people who say X-mas don't know about that, but XP was a comon early-church abbreviation for "Christ" in Greek. The X is also sometimes seen as tribute to the X-shaped crosses that martyrs sometimes hung on. It bugs me when people get all up in arms about things that they don't understand. In the past, it was common to see the word "Christians" abbreviated as X-ians.

That originated because the devout Christians believed it to be a sin to put the name of Christ on something that would be disposed of or thrown away, like a sign, card, or wrapping paper (not that those items were around way back then, but as an example).....It's the opposite of what you are complaining about and is supposed to be written as a form of reverence.

I am a total christmas girl, I love everything about it, just the warm feeling of the season and all the traditions, but I celebrate a total "heden" (sp?) christmas, no church, just...santa, the tree and all the other christmassy stuff that's got nothing to do with christ. And thats the way me likes it! :)
