i have had silicone implants for over 17 years. I did not know at the time that I would most likley have to have them replaced atleast once. I have got a lump in one and was checked out is most likley caused by a wrinkle or some such thing in one of the implants. I would like to have them taken out and replaced with smaller ones and since i have this lump issue it would seem like a good time. does anyone know exactly how that procedure works out. i am really concerned with the idea of surgeons taking out the old ones and causing possible leakage or breakage, ect. thankl

I used to work closely with a plastic surgeon. The procedure is pretty much the same as the augmentation was. However, they will make the incision(I recommend you find a plastic surgeon that uses a coterie iron instead of a scalpel, no drainage tubes or compression garments) and use a instrument that looks alot like a speculum they will place it in the incision and pull the implant out. The chances of them breaking the implant are almost non-existent considering the fact that they have been inside of you for 17yrs and I am sure they have been grabbed before. he will then repeat the same procedure on the other side. After, the old implants are removed they will slide in a new one(it is not full of saline yet) the new implant and began filling it with sterile saline. They will repeat the same on the other side.

If you use a doctor that uses a coterie iron you will have a much shorter recovery time! Plus the drugs now are much more specialized than they were 17 years ago! Good luck!

Do not assume that the lump is a wrinkle in your implant. Breast implants are not meant to last forever or even a lifetime. Current literature suggests a 10 year lifespan on the implant itself.
The lump could be:
leakage
encapsulation
tumor
Have a mammogram followed by an ultrasound for futher diagnosis at an imaging facility that has experience with women with implants.
If you have your implants replaced expect to have a mastopexy (breast lift) at the same time since you want smaller implants than what you currently have. The plastic surgeon will need to reduce the amount of tissue to get an appropriate pocket fit for the implant and so you wont have visible sagging.

Breast Implants surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
